“So to whatever extent new consoles fit with the kind of games we are making and support them technologically, we would certainly do that.”

So said Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, in an interview with MCV. Hines went on to say that IF the platforms in question (Wii U and PS Vita) can handle their games, they would “absolutely” support the new consoles.

For the past few years or so, Sony has been the only first-party to have a major prevalence at Gamescom, the games convention held in Cologne, Germany every summer. This year, rumors have been pointing to juicy bits of info from Sony, in particular for the Vita and PS3. According to the rumor, the PS3 will be dropped 20 Euros in Europe from 200 to 180. The rumor also states that the Vita will retain its fall launch date in North America and Japan, but will be bumped up to early 2012 in Europe, which goes against the ShopTo rumor earlier this month.

Ridge Racer Coming to Vita

Posted: June 27, 2011 in Uncategorized

This may be old news to some, but, in a manner like nearly every new system within the last decade or so, Ridge Racer will be a launch title. Cue the infamous quote…

Unlike LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet PSP, and LittleBigPlanet 2, LBP’s Vita outing will not be developed by Media Molecule, but rather by fellow UK developer Double11. The studio was founded by two ex-Rockstar vets, Lee Hutchinson and Matt Shepcar. LittleBigPlanet Vita is their first title.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is certainly shaping up to be an impressive launch title for the Vita, and this new trailer, albeit only twenty seconds long, just whets my appetite even more for some Uncharted awesomeness on the go this fall.

ShopTo, an online UK retailer, has put November 2nd as the Vita’s launch date. The site also offers a discount off of the Vita’s £230 price point, offering a little over a pound off. Better than nothing, we suppose.

UPDATE: Sony dismisses the launch date as “pure speculation”, the typical not-a-confirmation-nor-denial response.

UPDATE 2: ShopTo has moved the launch date two days ahead, to Nov. 4th.

Vita “Social Features” Trailer

There you have it. Looks pretty adequate for a handheld, and certainly more inclusive than some other portables.

We know nothing about this game, other than its name and that it will include some kind of multiplayer. Well, good news for Silent Hill fans, we suppose.

Rumor: Skype coming to Vita

Posted: June 18, 2011 in News, Rumors

We have this image, reportedly from a Sony Brazil press conference, during a section about the Vita. During the features demonstration, a Skype logo came on the screen, spawning this rumor. While this is entirely possible (Skype was available on the PSP, mind you), its current credibility is lowered because of Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Skype. On the other hand, having an Xbox, Windows, and Windows Phone-only Skype would probably not be good for Microsoft as far as profits go. We’ll keep an eye on this rumor as we reach closer to the Vita’s launch.

E3 2011 is now history, and the PlayStation Vita (formerly ‘NGP’) now creeps its way to retail. The Vita has no official launch date, but we do know that it will be out in time for the holidays. It will come in both 3G and Wi-Fi models, a la the Amazon Kindle, and will start at $249 in North America. The tech specs are also very impressive, with:

  • Quad-core ARM-Cortex-A9 processor
  • 5-inch, capacitive (multi-touch) touchscreen
  • Dual analog sticks, d-pad, PS button, face buttons, select/start buttons, L/R buttons
  • Rear multi-touch touchpad
  • Front and rear-facing cameras
  • Sony M2 Memory Card Slot
